Napa Valley: Robert Mondavi Winery
We were so lucky to get a three hour private tour of the Robert Mondavi Winery with a Senior Wine Educator. Thanks Inger! Not only did we tour the beautiful winery, but we got an incredible wine education.
The first major winery built in Napa Valley in the post-Prohibition era (1966), Robert Mondavi Winery helped establish the foundation for the modern-day California wine business. The winery is located on Highway 29 just north of Yountville, a small town that is home to the famous French Laundry restaurant and quite a few nice galleries and shops. Since we could not afford the French Laundry, we stopped down the road at Hurley's Restaurant and Bar for a great dinner (yummy pork chops!).
We stayed at the Gaia Hotel south of the town of Napa. It's Napa Valley's first environmentally-sustainable hotel.
There are dozens of wineries open for tour along Highway 29 and more than 200 in the valley! For more about Napa Valley, go to their web site.
